History
The flag of Poltava Oblast was adopted on 10 February 2000 in a 2:3 proportion and was designed by E. Shyrai. Its blue field symbolizes the sky and loyalty, while the golden Cossack cross reflects the region’s historic Cossack heritage and traditional Ukrainian symbolism. The flag belongs to the wave of regional symbols formalized after Ukraine’s 1997 law on local self-government enabled oblasts to adopt official emblems and flags.
