History
Zaporizhzhia Oblast adopted its modern regional flag in 1999 during the post-independence codification of Ukrainian regional symbols. The oblast is associated with the legacy of the Zaporozhian Cossacks, reflected in the central Cossack figure. The blue and yellow colors are tied to the Dnieper River, the sky, and the region’s fertile steppe and grain fields.
