History
The municipal flag of Laren in North Holland was officially adopted on 25 March 1987. Its design is derived from the town’s coat of arms. The large yellow S has appeared on local seals since the sixteenth century, but its exact meaning is unknown. Suggested interpretations include a stylised eel from the former Zuiderzee, a distorted initial L for Laren, or a hook used for hanging sheep’s wool.
