History
The flag of Lviv Oblast was officially adopted on 27 February 2001 in a 2:3 proportion. It displays the oblast’s crowned golden lion as the central emblem. The lion symbolizes the strength and resilience of the land and its people, evokes the name Lviv and Leo I of Galicia, and the crown refers to the region’s historic role as a capital center in the medieval Kingdom of Rus’ and later the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria.
