History
The flag of Ternopil Oblast was adopted on 21 December 2001 and revised on 18 November 2003. The current design is a 2:3 blue banner with a yellow sword and key beneath three white towers. The three towers symbolize the historic lands of Halychyna, Volhynia, and Podillia and recall the region’s many defensive castles. The sword and key represent the historic role of the area in defending Ukrainian lands and Europe from invasion. The blue and yellow colors echo the national colors of Ukraine.
