The state flag of Venezuela is a horizontal yellow-blue-red tricolor with an arc of eight white stars centered on the blue band and the national coat of arms in the upper hoist of the yellow band.
The flag of Venezuela is based on the yellow, blue, and red tricolor created by Francisco de Miranda for his 1806 liberation expedition and adopted by the National Congress in 1811. The colors are traditionally associated with the nation’s wealth and agricultural riches, the sea and independence, and the blood shed in the struggle for freedom. The arc of eight white stars represents the original provinces of Barcelona, Cumaná, Caracas, Barinas, Mérida, Margarita, Trujillo, and Guayana. The state variant places the national coat of arms in the upper hoist of the yellow band. The current design was formally introduced in March 2006.
