#1078 · state_flag
Flag of the U.S. state of Georgia, featuring red-white-red horizontal stripes and a blue canton with the state coat of arms in gold, encircled by thirteen white stars.
Georgia adopted its current state flag on February 19, 2003. The design deliberately echoes the First National Flag of the Confederacy, known as the “Stars and Bars.” The ring of thirteen stars represents Georgia as one of the original Thirteen Colonies. The central coat of arms shows an arch symbolizing the state constitution, supported by three pillars representing the legislative, executive, and judicial branches, with a soldier and the motto “In God We Trust” below. The current design followed earlier flag changes in 1956 and 2001 and was retained after a public referendum in 2004.
