#2028
#0197 · national
The flag of Venezuela is a horizontal yellow, blue, and red tricolor with an arc of eight white stars centered on the blue stripe.
Venezuela’s national flag is based on a tricolor created by Francisco de Miranda in 1806 and first adopted at independence in 1811. The yellow, blue, and red bands have remained the core design, while the current national version features an arc of eight white stars representing the original provinces of Barcelona, Cumaná, Caracas, Barinas, Mérida, Margarita, Trujillo, and Guayana. The eighth star was officially added in 2006, reflecting Simón Bolívar’s 1817 decree recognizing Guayana.
Eighth star added
Simón Bolívar's decree added an eighth star to represent Guayana.
Coat of arms added
The 1954 law added the coat of arms to the state flag; the civil flag remained without it.
Eighth star restored
The flag gained an eighth star and the coat of arms was revised.
