The flag of Saxony is a white-over-green horizontal bicolour. The white and green state colours were officially adopted in 1815 during the Kingdom of Saxony, drawing on heraldic elements associated with the Wettin dynasty. The plain bicolour serves as the civil flag, while a version bearing the state coat of arms is used as the state flag. After periods of discontinuation under Nazi and East German rule, the flag was readopted in 1991 following German reunification.
