The flag of Indonesia, officially known as Sang Saka Merah-Putih, was first raised at the proclamation of independence on 17 August 1945 and was later codified in 1950. Its design has remained unchanged. Red is traditionally associated with courage and bravery, while white represents purity, honesty, and peace. The red-and-white color tradition is linked to the Majapahit empire and was also used by early Indonesian nationalist organizations in the 1920s. The flag is visually identical to Monaco’s except for its proportions.
