The flag of Sarawak features a yellow field crossed by broad black and red diagonal bands, with a nine-pointed yellow star centered where the bands meet.
Sarawak adopted this flag on 31 August 1988, marking the 25th anniversary of the state's entry into Malaysia. The yellow field symbolizes the supremacy of law, unity, and stability, and is also associated with Malay royalty. Red represents courage, determination, and sacrifice, while black signifies Sarawak’s rich natural resources and is associated with the Dayak peoples. The nine-pointed star represents Sarawak’s nine administrative divisions and the harmony and aspirations of its people. The design preserves the historic yellow, red, and black color scheme of the former Raj of Sarawak flag while replacing the earlier crown with a star.
