The national flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis features a black diagonal band edged in yellow between a green upper triangle and a red lower triangle, with two white stars on the band.
Saint Kitts and Nevis adopted this flag on 19 September 1983 at independence. The design was created by Edrice Lewis after a national competition and was approved by the College of Arms. The green represents fertile land, the red symbolizes the struggle against slavery and colonialism, the black stands for African heritage, the yellow signifies sunshine and prosperity, and the two white stars represent Saint Kitts and Nevis as well as hope and liberty.
