The flag of Myanmar is a horizontal tricolor of yellow, green, and red with a large white five-pointed star centered across the bands.
Myanmar adopted this flag on 21 October 2010. The yellow band represents solidarity and unity, the green symbolizes peace, tranquility, and the country’s lush land, and the red stands for courage, decisiveness, and the bravery of the people. The central white star signifies hope and the aspirations of the populace. Earlier national flags included a red field with a blue canton bearing white stars from 1948 to 1974, and a red field with a blue canton containing a cogwheel, rice ear, and fourteen stars from 1974 to 2010.
Independence flag designed and adopted
Maung Win designed the red flag with a blue canton and white stars, which the Constituent Assembly adopted in August 1947.
Current design prescribed in constitution
Article 437 of the 2008 Constitution prescribed the current yellow, green, and red flag with a centered white star.
Current flag adopted
The Union Flag Law adopted the current flag on 21 October 2010 and repealed the 1974 State Flag Law.
