History
The flag of the Canton of Bern was officially adopted in 1850 and has remained unchanged. Its heraldic design is blazoned as gules, on a bend or, a bear passant sable, langued, armed and vilené of the field. The bear is a canting symbol associated with Bern since the 13th century, while the red and yellow colors reflect historic imperial colors once used in the territory.
