National flag of San Marino with horizontal white and light blue bands and the coat of arms centered.
The flag of San Marino has documented origins in the 16th century and was formally adopted in the late 18th century. It was standardized on 6 April 1862 after Italian unification, and its current 3:4 proportions and design were officially codified on 22 July 2011. The white and light blue colors symbolize peace and liberty, while the coat of arms depicts the three towers of Guaita, Cesta, and Montale on Mount Titano, topped by a crown and framed by laurel and oak branches, with the motto LIBERTAS.
