The flag of Brandenburg is a red-over-white horizontal bicolor with the state coat of arms centered, showing a red eagle on a white shield.
Brandenburg uses a red-over-white flag with the red eagle of Brandenburg at the center. The red and white colors derive from the Margraviate of Brandenburg, and the red eagle was associated with Brandenburg from the 10th century. A postwar version introduced in 1945 fell out of use after the states were dissolved in East Germany in 1952. The present flag was reinstated after German reunification and formally adopted on 30 January 1991. Its official proportion is 3:5.
