Northern Savonia

Northern Savonia is a region in eastern Finland. Its flag follows Finnish regional flag practice and uses a bow and arrow also found in the arms of both North and South Savonia, representing the historic Savonian hunting tradition and frontier character. The yellow bands symbolize fertile fields and prosperity, while the black band refers to the region’s forests and lakes. The flag was officially adopted in the late 1990s during a wider programme that gave Finnish regions distinctive flags.
