History
The flag of South Savonia represents the Finnish region of Etelä-Savo. Its black field symbolizes the region’s forests and deep lakes, while the narrow yellow stripe near the hoist represents the sun, hope, and a bright future. The stylized bow and arrow is derived from the historic Savonia coat of arms and is shared as a cultural emblem of the Savonian people and their hunting traditions. The design was approved by the regional council in the mid-2000s.
