The national flag of Kuwait features horizontal green, white, and red stripes with a black trapezoid at the hoist.
Kuwait adopted this flag on 7 September 1961, and it was first officially hoisted on 24 November 1961. Its green, white, red, and black are pan-Arab colors associated with historic Arab dynasties and wider Arab unity symbolism. The design distinguishes Kuwait from related regional flags by using a black trapezoid at the hoist.
