National flag of Mozambique with green, black, and yellow horizontal bands separated by white fimbriations, plus a red hoist triangle bearing a yellow star, book, hoe, and AK-47.
Mozambique adopted its current national flag on 1 May 1983. Its design is linked to FRELIMO and the country’s liberation history. The colors and symbols represent land, the people and the African continent, mineral wealth, peace, the struggle for independence and defense of sovereignty, socialist heritage, agriculture, vigilance and defense, and education. It is notable as the only national flag of a United Nations member to display a modern firearm.
