History
Jamaica adopted this flag on 6 August 1962, the day the country became independent. The design was created by a bipartisan committee of the House of Representatives. Its colors symbolize the strength and creativity of the people and the hardships overcome in black, the natural wealth and sunlight in gold, and hope, vegetation, and agricultural resources in green. The flag is notable as a national flag that does not use red, white, or blue.
