The national flag of the Bahamas features three horizontal bands of aquamarine, gold, and aquamarine, with a black triangle at the hoist.
The flag of the Bahamas was adopted on 10 July 1973 when the country gained independence. It was created by Rev. Dr. Hervis Bain after a national design competition. The black triangle is traditionally interpreted as representing strength, stability, and forward movement; the black color represents the unity, determination, and vigor of the Bahamian people. The aquamarine bands signify the surrounding Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, and the gold band denotes the sun-lit sandy beaches and the islands’ natural wealth.
