National flag of Namibia featuring a red diagonal band bordered in white, dividing a blue upper hoist triangle and a green lower fly triangle, with a golden sun in the upper hoist.
Namibia adopted its national flag on 21 March 1990 at independence. The design was created by South African State Herald Frederick Brownell after a nationwide competition that received 835 submissions. Its colors and symbols represent the Atlantic Ocean and clear skies, the heroism and determination of the people, agricultural resources, peace and unity, and life, energy, and the country's 12 major ethnic groups.
