Flag of Guam featuring a dark blue field with a narrow red border and a centered almond-shaped territorial seal showing a coastal scene and the name GUAM.
The flag of Guam was designed in 1917 by Helen L. Paul and first flown in 1918. It was formally adopted on 9 February 1948. The current version features a dark marine-blue field with a narrow red border added in 1960; the border symbolizes blood shed during World War II and earlier Spanish rule. The centered territorial seal is shaped after a Chamorro sling-stone and depicts a traditional Chamorro proa in Agaña Bay, a coconut palm, and the cliff of Two Lovers Point.
