The flag of New Hampshire is a dark blue field bearing the state seal encircled by a gold laurel wreath and nine gold stars.
New Hampshire adopted this flag design in 1909, with a minor modification in 1932. The centered seal depicts the frigate Raleigh under construction in Portsmouth Harbor, with the water representing the harbor and a yellow spit of land symbolizing granite. The nine stars represent New Hampshire as the ninth state to ratify the Constitution. The seal was originally adopted in 1784, and the present flag layout was designed by Helen Seavey.
