History
Kentucky adopted its state flag on March 26, 1918, and the visual design was finalized in 1928 by Jessie Cox. The flag features the state seal encircled by a goldenrod wreath and the inscription “Commonwealth of Kentucky.” The seal depicts a buckskin-clad frontiersman and a formally dressed statesman clasping hands, symbolizing unity and reflecting the motto “United we stand, divided we fall.”
