History
The flag of Drenthe was adopted on 19 February 1947 and was designed by Gerlof Auke Bontekoe. Its red-and-white colors reflect traditional Saxon colors and also refer to the historic connection of Drenthe with Utrecht. The black tower represents Coevorden Castle, and the six red stars symbolize the six original dingspellen: Zuidenveld, Oostenmoer, Noordenveld, Rolde, Beilen, and Diever.
