Blue secession banner reproduction showing Liberty in red, holding a sword and a small blue flag with a gold star beneath the motto “Independent Now and Forever.”
This reproduction represents the obverse of the banner presented to the Alabama Secession Convention on 11 January 1861. It was created as the convention’s official standard rather than a permanent state flag. The original was a double-sided secession banner, with the obverse showing Liberty holding an unsheathed sword and a small blue flag bearing a single gold star, together with the name Alabama and the motto “Independent Now and Forever.” The banner was flown at the convention until storm damage led to its removal on 10 February 1861, after which it was not flown again.
