History
The Maine Bicentennial Flag was unveiled in 2020 as the official commemorative flag for the state’s 200th-anniversary celebrations. The design was submitted by Jeff Van West and selected through a public survey. Its symbolism combines blue sky, blue water, an off-center white-pine form based on the tree used on Maine’s 1930s Merchant and Marine flag, and the Dirigo star and banner drawn from the state seal and used in other bicentennial branding.
