History
The flag was used by the Septinsular Republic from 1800 to 1807. Its winged Lion of Saint Mark represented the Venetian legacy of the Ionian Islands. The bundle of seven arrows symbolized the seven islands of the republic: Corfu, Paxos, Lefkada, Ithaca, Cephalonia, Zakynthos, and Kythira. The blue field evoked the surrounding sea.
