The flag of the Republic of the Congo is a diagonal tricolor with a yellow band running from the lower hoist to the upper fly, separating a green upper hoist triangle from a red lower fly triangle.
The national flag of the Republic of the Congo was officially adopted on 15 September 1959 and retained at independence in 1960. It was replaced by a socialist red flag from 1969 until the early 1990s, then restored on 10 June 1991. The green symbolizes forests and agriculture, the yellow represents friendship, nobility, and national wealth, and the red is associated with blood shed in the struggle for independence. Its colors are part of the Pan-African palette.
