The national flag of The Gambia features horizontal bands of red, blue, and green separated by narrow white stripes.
Adopted on 18 February 1965 at independence, the flag of The Gambia was designed by Louis Thomasi. Its red band represents the savannah and the sun, the blue band symbolizes the Gambia River, the green band stands for forests and agriculture, and the white stripes signify unity and peace. The design remained unchanged during the 1982–1989 confederation with Senegal.
