The national flag of Slovenia is a horizontal white, blue, and red tricolor with the Slovenian coat of arms placed near the upper hoist.
Slovenia’s tricolor was first raised on 7 April 1848 in Ljubljana by Lovro Toman during the Spring of Nations. Its white, blue, and red colors are associated with the historic arms of the Duchy of Carniola and also came to be understood within the wider pan-Slavic color tradition. The current national flag was adopted on 25 June 1991 after independence. The coat of arms features Mount Triglav, two wavy lines symbolizing the Adriatic Sea and local rivers, and three golden six-pointed stars derived from the medieval Counts of Celje. During the socialist period from 1945 to 1991, a red star appeared on the flag before the present design was standardized.
