#0140 · national
The flag of Paraguay is a horizontal red-white-blue tricolor with the national coat of arms centered on the white stripe.
Paraguay adopted its present red-white-blue national flag in 1842. The horizontal tricolor was inspired by the French colors and is traditionally associated with justice, peace, and freedom. Paraguay’s flag is distinctive for having different designs on its two sides: the obverse bears the national coat of arms, while the reverse displays the treasury seal with the motto “Paz y Justicia.” The artistic rendering of the emblems has changed over time, and the current standardized version dates from 15 July 2013.
Proportions and emblem changed
The flag’s proportions changed, and a red border was added around the inscription on the front emblem.
