History
North Macedonia adopted this flag on 5 October 1995. Designed by Miroslav Grčev, it shows a stylized golden sun on a red field with eight broadening rays extending from the center to the edge of the flag. The design symbolizes the “new sun of Liberty” and is associated with vitality, freedom, unity, and hope. It replaced the earlier 1992–1995 flag that used the Vergina Sun, while retaining the historic red-and-gold national color scheme.
