History
The flag of Kyrgyzstan was adopted on 3 March 1992 after independence in 1991. Its red field is associated with bravery and valor and is linked to the banner of the epic hero Manas. The sun’s 40 rays represent the 40 Kyrgyz tribes united by Manas and also his followers. The central tunduk, the roof opening of a traditional yurt, symbolizes the hearth, the universe, harmony between sky and earth, continuity of nomadic life, and the solidarity and heritage of the Kyrgyz people.
