North Brabant-Flag

The flag of North Brabant was officially adopted on 21 January 1959. Its red-and-white chequy design revives a medieval Brabantian banner associated with the region since the 10th century. The colors were used by the County of Leuven from 942 CE and later by the Duchy of Brabant. After falling out of use at the end of the 18th century, the design was restored in the 20th century as a symbol of provincial identity.
