The national flag of Wales features a large red dragon on a horizontal white-over-green field.
The flag of Wales combines a red dragon, an ancient emblem associated with Wales and the Kingdom of Gwynedd, with white and green colors linked to the Tudor dynasty. Henry VII, of Welsh descent, used the red dragon standard at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485, and the emblem later appeared in Tudor royal symbolism. A different red-dragon design was used in 1953, and the present flag was formally recognized as the national flag of Wales in 1959.
