History
Kharkiv Oblast adopted this flag on 11 May 1999. It is a 2:3 flag with a dark crimson field and the regional coat of arms centered on both sides. The shield occupies half the flag’s height. Before the modern oblast flag was adopted, the region had no separate official flag under the Tsardom of Russia, the Russian Empire, or the Soviet Union, though the Kharkiv Regiment used its own regimental banner in the 17th and 18th centuries.
