History
Chiayi City’s official flag was adopted in the mid-1990s. Its symbolism connects the city to its local identity and wider national context: the plum blossom represents the municipal flower and resilience, the mountain form refers to the nearby Alishan Range, the wavy element represents waterways, and the white sun motif links the city to the Republic of China.
