History

The flag of the Republic of Karelia was adopted on 16 February 1993. It was designed by Alexander Ivanovich Kinnear. The three equal horizontal stripes are red, blue, and green in a 2:3 proportion. Red represents strength, courage, and the working people of Karelia, blue represents the republic’s lakes, rivers, and waters, and green represents its forests and natural environment.
