The flag of the Republic of Dagestan was adopted on 26 February 1994. It was designed by Abdulvagab C. Muratchayev. On 19 November 2003, the flag was modified by changing its proportions from 1:2 to 2:3 and changing the middle stripe from light blue to a darker blue. The green stripe symbolizes life, the abundance of the land, and Islam; the blue stripe represents the Caspian Sea and the beauty and grandeur of the Dagestani people; and the red stripe stands for courage, bravery, democracy, the enlightening power of the human mind, and fidelity.
