The flag of Guernsey is a white field with a red St George’s Cross and a smaller gold Norman cross superimposed at the center.
The flag of Guernsey combines the red Cross of St George with a smaller gold Norman cross. The red cross reflects Guernsey’s historic ties to England and its status as a Crown dependency, while the gold cross recalls the banner associated with William the Conqueror and honors the island’s Norman heritage and former connection to the Duchy of Normandy. A distinct Guernsey design was developed in the early 1980s and was formally adopted on 9 May 1985 to mark the 40th anniversary of Guernsey’s liberation from German occupation. It is recognized as the national flag of the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
