History
The flag of Gagauzia was officially adopted in 1995 after the settlement of the region’s autonomous status within Moldova following its brief self-declared independence in 1990–1991. Its blue, white, and red colors are associated with freedom, purity, and courage. The three stars are traditionally interpreted either as the past, present, and future of the Gagauz people or as the three principal municipalities of the autonomous region: Comrat, Ceadîr-Lunga, and Vulcănești.
