Provisional flag used by Florida in 1861, showing thirteen red and white horizontal stripes with a blue canton bearing a single white star.
This provisional flag was used by Florida in 1861 after secession from the United States. Ordered by Colonel William H. Chase, it copied the Republic of Texas Navy's Lone Star ensign, with thirteen red and white stripes and a blue canton bearing a single white star. It was raised over the Pensacola Navy Yard and other seized forts and remained in use for about eight months until Florida adopted a different state flag in September 1861.
