Historical flag of Florida used from 1868 to 1900, consisting of a plain white field with the state seal centered.
Florida adopted this flag in 1868 after its Reconstruction-era constitutional convention called for the Great Seal of the State to be placed on a white ground. The centered seal depicted a steamboat on water, a rising sun, and a sabal palm, along with the motto “In God We Trust.” This design remained in use until 1900, when a red diagonal cross was added to the white field.
