The flag of Eswatini features blue stripes at the top and bottom, a broad red central band edged in yellow, and a large black-and-white Nguni shield with spears and a feathered staff centered across the middle.
The national flag of Eswatini was adopted on 6 October 1968 shortly after independence. Its design was created by King Sobhuza II and was based on a military banner presented to the Swazi Pioneer Corps in 1941. The flag was first hoisted on 25 April 1967 and registered by the College of Arms in London on 30 October 1967. The blue fields represent peace and stability, the red band commemorates blood shed in the struggle for freedom, and the yellow edging signifies mineral wealth and sunlight. The black-and-white shield symbolizes protection, unity, and the meeting of Swazi and European heritage, while the spears, staff, and feather tassels express readiness to defend the country, royal authority, and cultural identity.
