Denmark Bornholm

Bornholm uses an unofficial regional flag based on the Danish Nordic-cross tradition. The design emerged from a local competition in the early 1970s and was first raised publicly in 1973. It has no formal legal status but is widely used on the island by residents, businesses, and tourist sites. The red field reflects Bornholm’s maritime heritage and ties to Denmark, while the cross refers to the Christian symbolism associated with the Dannebrog tradition and the green element represents the island’s forests, fertile land, and agricultural character.
