Known as the Dannebrog, Denmark’s flag is widely regarded as the world’s oldest continuously used national flag. Tradition links its origin to the Battle of Lyndanisse in 1219, though documented use appears in royal and naval standards in the 14th century. It later became a broader national symbol, especially during the 19th century and the 1849 constitutional reforms. The design is the origin of the Nordic-cross flag tradition later used across Scandinavia.
