The national flag of Armenia is a horizontal tricolor of red, blue, and orange in three equal bands.
Armenia’s red-blue-orange tricolor was first adopted for the First Republic on 24 August 1918, was replaced during the Soviet period, revived in 1988, and formally readopted on 24 August 1990. The flag is in a 1:2 proportion. Official descriptions state that red symbolizes the Armenian Highland, the Armenian people’s struggle for survival, the preservation of the Christian faith, and independence and freedom; blue represents the desire to live under peaceful skies; and orange represents the creative talent, hard-working nature, and courage of the Armenian people.
